English: Since 2013 we have been developing City Hacks for the sustainable circular city, first under the name “The City Is Open Source” and now here. We start the continuation with a best-of of the old page. This time CITY LIFE.

→ Conversation Zones

Konversationszonen

e. Sometimes you wait for the bus and feel like talking to someone but there is just no way to start talking to another person around you waiting for the bus? “Conversation zones” are marked and it is clear if you are there that you are open to be approached by others. Maybe some interesting questions are placed there as conversation starters. -> The more people know about each other (social capital) the easier it becomes to live in a resource-saving and happy way. | Invented by students @HBKsaar

d. Manchmal wartet man auf einen Bus oder eine Bahn, langweilt sich und hätte vielleicht Lust, mit jemandem um einen herum zu sprechen. In markierten “Konversationszonen” kann man andere einfach ansprechen und von anderen angesprochen werden. Eventuell sind dort noch Fragen als “Konversationsstarter” platziert. -> Je mehr Menschen übereinander wissen (Sozialkapital), desto leichter wird, Ressourcen-schonend und glücklich zu leben. | Erfunden von Studierenden der HBKsaar.

e. This won’t work everywhere. But in Germany, where I am located, we have a welfare system called Hartz IV. You get basic financial support from the to cover your daily expenses, rent and health insurance. It is not much. But if you don’t have a resource intense life-style, like a circular one, it can be enough. Use it to become a ‘Circularity Worker’. Life a resource saving lifestyle, live a happy life without lot’s of stuff, and talk openly about it, blog about it, present it on the street. Set up a forum where circularity workers can meet and help each other to invent their life and deal with the state (welfare system). Put a positive spin on working less and receiving something like a “basic income” already. | A good way to start this as a hack is to set up a website and a forum for it, print flyers and hand them out infront of the Jobcenter (The place where you have to go from time to time if you receive welfare from the state). → Those people are already living this life’s. But they can’t talk openly about it and can’t put a positive spin on it. Let them be heroes and researchers! | Update: Something like this is also addressed in and planned for FFFS Episode 3: “Sustainably Unemployed”

d. Das wird nicht überall funktionieren. Aber in Deutschland, wo ich mich befinde, haben wir ein Sozialsystem namens Hartz IV. Man erhält eine finanzielle Grundversorgung für Deckung der täglichen Ausgaben, für Miete und Krankenversicherung. Es ist nicht viel. Aber wenn man keinen ressourcenintensiven Lebensstil hat, wie z.B. einen zirkulären, kann es genug sein. Man kann das also ganz einfach nutzen, um ein “Circularity-Arbeiter” zu werden! Lebt einen ressourcenschonenden Lebensstil, lebt ein glückliches Leben ohne viel Zeug und redet offen darüber, bloggt darüber, präsentier es auf der Straße. Man könnte ein Forum einrichten, in dem Circularity-Arbeiter sich treffen und einander helfen, ihr Leben zu erfinden und mit den Behörden zu kommunizieren. Erzählt es als positive Geschichte, dass ihr weniger arbeitet und so weniger Ressourcen verbraucht und bereits etwas wie ein bedingungsloses Grundeinkommen zu erhalten! | Eine gute Möglichkeit, dies als Hack zu beginnen, ist die Einrichtung einer Website und eines Forums dafür, das Drucken von Flyern und deren Verteilung vor dem Jobcenter (Der Ort, an den man von Zeit zu Zeit gehen muss, wenn man Wohlfahrt vom Staat erhält). Hartz IV-Empfänger leben bereits oft unfreiwillig nachhaltige(re) Leben. Aber wir haben bisher keine Möglichkeit, das als positive Geschichte zu erzählen. Lasst sie Helden und Forscher sein! | Update: So etwas wird auch in FFFS Episode 3: “Nachhaltig arbeitslos” erwähnt und weiterentwickelt.

e. What is a surveillaton? It is a classic weekend hackathon. Participants are invited to build surveillance systems und use them directly to manipulate people! On sunday results are presented to public and press.

d. Surveillaton (Überwachungshackathon) – Ein klassischer Wochenend-Hackathon. Die Teilnehmer bauen Überwachungssysteme setzen sie direkt ein, um Menschen zu manipulieren! Sonntags werden die Ergebnisse Öffentlichkeit und Presse präsentiert.

e. Not quite a full hack but a nice idea: The CIRCULAR HOUSE is a project supported by a real estate company or a tycoon that want’s to do something good for the world. As a resident you pay a very small rent or no rent at all. You become a resident by applying with a ‘project’. The project is a certain sustainable and circular life-style! You explore it in an open fashion: you blog about it and create tutorials so that others can do the same. Once accepted you are allowed to stay for 5 years in the house. Projects like this could be spread across the city. Work your way into the heart of a real estate company or homeowner to get this project off the ground. And with the current tense real estate and housing market in our cities, press attention is guaranteed. And a WinWin – positive press for the real estate company and sustainable living!

d. Nur halb ein Hack aber eine schöne Idee: Das CIRCULAR HOUSE ist ein Projekt, das von einer Immobilienfirma oder einem Tycoon unterstützt wird, der etwas Gutes für die Welt tun will. Als Bewohner zahlt man eine sehr kleine Miete oder auch einfach gar keine Miete. Man wird Bewohner, indem man sich mit einem “Projekt” bewirbt. Das Projekt ist ein nachhaltiger und zirkulärer Lebensstil! Man erkundet diesen Lebensstile dabei auf offene Weise: Bloggt darüber und erstellt Tutorials, damit andere das Gleiche tun können. Nach Aufnahme darf man 5 Jahre im Haus bleiben. Solche Projekte könnten über die ganze Stadt verteilt werden. Arbeiten Sie sich in das Herz einer Immobilienfirma oder eines Hausbesitzers, um dieses Projekt auf den Weg zu bringen. Und beim derzeit angespannten Immobilien- und Wohnungsmarkt in unseren Städten ist Presseaufmerksamkeit dabei sicher. Und ein WinWin – positive Presse für die Immobilienfirma und nachhaltiges Leben!

e. “What if the city was a playground?” This is self explanatory. Except the last picture. This is nothing we did. We found this in Viersen. A huge hollow in the center of the pedestrian zone everyone enjoys and plays with. All the time. Super cool!

d. “Was wäre, wenn die Stadt ein Spielplatz wäre und alles darin nur falsch aufgestellte Spielgeräte?” … Das ist selbsterklärend. Außer das letzte Bild. Das ist kein Hack von uns. Wir haben das so in Viersen gesehen: eine große Kuhle in der Mitte der Fußgängerzone. Alle Bewohner spielen damit. Sehr cool.
